Archie Gerald Thompson is a NZ-born Australian professional footballer of Papua New Guinean heritage. Archie’s distinguished career includes spells at famed European clubs Lierse in the Belgian Pro League and Dutch Eredivisie club PSV Eindhoven as well as eleven seasons with the Melbourne Victory where his fearsome striking ability saw the Victory claim Hyundai A-League championships in 2006-07 and 2014-2015, owing in no small part to Archie’s unprecedented 97 goals. Arguably Archie’s greatest achievements on the pitch came as a nationally capped Socceroo and veteran of over 50 matches for Australia in which Thompson netted 28 goals including an international record-breaking 13 goals in just one game in the Socceroos 31-0 demolition of American Samoa in 2001. Archie is currently playing for National Premiere League’s Victorian side Heidelberg in addition to serving as Club Ambassador of Melbourne Victory. Archie is deeply committed to youth and community engagement and initiatives from visiting children in hospital and youth in correctional facilities to operating the Archie Thompson School Of Soccer, a holiday camp for boys and girls of any level of playing ability.
